Spelling Bee Took Place Smoothly and Successfully

On march,6, the highly anticipated activity in this semester took place at 18.20 and the competition was fiercer than ever. Many head teachers and all students from senior one were engaged in this activity.

This year’s competition features a record number of participants, all vying for the winner of spelling bee. At the very beginning of the competition, the comperes announced several rules of spelling bee. Then, competitors from group 2 and 3 first went on the stage to do tasks. The competition were mainly divided into 5 categories : speed spelling, spelling relay, Guess and Spell, Spot the error, super word respectively.

As soon as the competition began, the atmosphere became serious and tense. The competition kicked off with a series of preliminary rounds, where participants were tested on a range of difficult words. However, group 3 behaved more stable than group 2 and group 3 reached the final round successfully. Next, group1 and 4 competed fiercely at the beginning. Then the gap between each group became wider. The most surprising part of these two groups was the fifth part. A participant in the forth group recognized the super word in the Sudoku in just a few seconds, which brought audiences the applause.

Undeniably, group 4 made the final round.

During the final round, the two teams were neck to neck. Through the whole group’s effort, group 3 won the best group in the end. Next turn to the personal task, competitors in group 3 need to spell the words quickly in 60 second one by one. Their scores (number of words spelled) were 9,7,10,9,7 respectively. Finally, the 3nd competitor Gan Zishu won the personal championship and was congratulated by the judges and other participants.

After the fierce game, the head girl Wang Shuya from senior three came onto the stage and gave a speech about her preparation of the IELTS test. Students in senior one learned a lot in speaking and writing. “Wang Shuya’s speech helped me know a lot more about the way to practice my oral English by myself through a useful app and some media resources.” , one of the students said after the match.

In conclusion, the spelling bee competition was not just about winning, but also about learning and experiencing. It combines reciting vocabulary with games and is beneficial to the learning for international students. The spelling bee competition was a great success overall.
